霍乱是一种由摄入受到霍乱弧菌这种细菌污染的食物或水引起的急性肠道感染。霍乱的潜伏期短，从不足 1 天到 5 天，并产生肠毒素，造成大量无痛水泻，如不及时给予治疗，可迅速导致严重脱水和死亡。大多数患者还出现呕吐。

Cholera is an acute intestinal infection caused by ingestion of food or water contaminated with the bacterium Vibrio cholerae. It has a short incubation period, from less than 1 day to 5 days, and produces an enterotoxin that causes a copious, painless, watery diarrhoea that can quickly lead to severe dehydration and death if treatment is not promptly given. Vomiting also occurs in most patients.
